Making .PDF Documents Searchable in 64-bit Windows




Windows uses a plugin called IFilters that allows the Windows Indexing Service to index file formats so that they are searchable. This is also the same process used by SQL Server (think: huge databases) to streamline the “search full text” function. There is no built in .PDF IFilter in Windows.


Adobe makes an extension IFilter:
