Exporting an AOL address book into Gmail

Search words :  Export AOL address book contacts email addresses,

Plaxo used to work to help in doing this, but AOL broke it’s ties to Plaxo.

1.       Download AOL Communicator here it and install it. http://mcwsd.com/512/Utilites/AOL_Communicator_Mail_Program.exe

2.       Run it. Use the existing AOL account info.  (I do believe it works only for real AOL accounts and not free AIM accounts)  Go to the address book. Select "All contacts" from the categories on the left. Go to File > Export and save it. You now have an LDIF file.

3.       Use Vista Mail, Outlook Express or Thunderbird to import the LDIF file

4.       Export it as a CSV (comma separated) file OUT of one of the three above programs. You now have a file that Gmail can import.

5.       Log into Gmail. Click on the Contacts link to the left. In the Contacts window, click on the Import link in the upper right. Browse to the CSV file and click "Import."

6.        If it fails…  Open the CSV file with a spreadsheet program. Delete empty columns an. Add a first row that provides a label for each column. Try using the labels "First Name," "Last Name," "Email Address," "Street Address" and "Phone." , Save the spreadsheet as a CSV file.
