Quickbooks freezes after logging in...

A company in Point Loma was having a crippling Quickbooks issue. Apparently, when before closing Quickbooks, she had a lot of Quickbooks windows open and just prior to closing, accidentally opened a report. She then closed Quickbooks for the day.

The next day, she tried to open her company file and would continually get a not responding error. Everyone else in the office could open the company file just fine.

Here's the fix:

Press and hold the Alt key while opening the file:

  • If the file is password protected, release the Alt key and enter the password.

  • Press Alt while clicking OK.

  • Continue pressing Alt until the file appears with no windows open.

To prevent this from happening in the future:

  1. On the QuickBooks Edit menu, select Preferences.

  2. In the leftmost column, select Desktop View.

  3. On the My Preferences tab, select Don't save the desktop and click OK.

Boom! Fixbooks!
