Windows could not connect to the group policy Client. Fun error. It really makes a mess. In my case near San Diego the PC was unstable, crashed and locked up after about 2 minutes. In safe mode, FYI, it ran fine.
I found this fix. I had to struggle with it a bit, but after following these instructions, got the service running again!
Fix:
Press Windows+R key and type
regedit and click ok
Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\gpsvc - ADDED - be sure to take ownership and full rights for the administrators of the PC in order to delete. I had to fight this a little bit.
Right click on the key and EXPORT it to desktop.Right click on key and delete it from registry(not desktop)
Download
gpsvc.reg - it's in the MCW-DB - (\_Utilities\Registry Fixes)
Launch it and click YES, reboot and the service should be running.
